The selected candidate will maintain grounds at NRTF Lualualei and/or SATCOM to include buildings and sheds and will repair and paint structures and equipment, performing one or more of the following tasks:
Cuts grass, using walking type or riding mowers, trims hedges prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools. Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer. Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or activating sprinkler system. Picks up and burns or carts away leaves, paper, or other litter. Assists in minor repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment. Cleans and keeps in orderly condition project office areas and washrooms on premises of the office. Duties involve a combination of the following: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, or scrubbing and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms. Drives gasoline and diesel powered tractor to move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, and pull out objects embedded in ground. Fastens attachments such as scoops and mowers (over 2000 lbs) to tractor. Adjusts equipment for proper operation. Lubricates and makes minor repairs to tractor and attachments, such as tightening bolts and replacing washers, cotter pins, and screws. Operates 30 and 70 foot boom truck and works from boom basket using gas powered 14 inch to 36 inch gas powered wood saw. Operates gas powered wood chipper and adheres to safety rules, standard operating procedures, and precautions. Repairs damaged tires of tractors, trucks, and other vehicles; raises vehicle using hydraulic jack and unbolts wheels using lug wrench. Removes wheel from vehicle by hand. Locates punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tire in water bath and observing air bubbles emerging from puncture. Seals puncture in tubeless tire by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plug into puncture, using hand tools. Separates tube from wheel, using rubber mallet and metal bar or mechanical tire changer. Removes inner tube from tire and inspects tire casing for defects such as holes and tears. Glues boot (tire patch) over rupture in tire casing using rubber cement. Inflates inner tube and immerses it in water to locate leak. Buffs defective area using scraper and patches tubes with adhesive rubber patch or seals rubber patch to tube using hot vulcanizing plate. Reassembles tire onto wheel and replaces the repaired tire wheel on vehicle. Removes, repairs, buffs, and replaces tubeless tires on light, medium, and heavy duty tractors and trucks. Perform other duties as assigned.
