Advise Human Terrain Team and unit staff in the conduct/management of ethnographic/social science analytical research and analysis as they relate to military operations. Perform open-source, on-line/library research as needed. Perform linguistic translation of conversations or source documents. Provide local area interpretation of socio-cultural data, information and understanding of local and regional culture. Gathers statistics from various internal and external sources including records, surveys, interviews and outside agencies. Verifies source material for authenticity, edits and corrects data, and cross references to assure accuracy and completeness. Prepares standard and specialized reports. May prepare charts and graphs to illustrate reports. Monitors status and progress of work to ensure compliance with task orders. Computes and analyzes varied statistical data. Studies existing data handling systems to evaluate effectiveness and develops or assists in developing new systems to meet requirements. Reviews changes to interfacing systems and documents for impact on current system design and recommends modifications or alterations. Likewise of prototypical procedures, practices, and protocols to support business process engineering of the program. Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda and instruction manuals relative to the establishment and functioning of complete military operational systems. Reviews changes to computer operation manuals. Confers with customer personnel and other professionals to ascertain specific content/output requirements and ensure completeness of research projects and documentation. Attends interface meetings with software developers and end-users to ensure maximum effectiveness of applications and minimum disruption of capabilities. Posts information to records; maintains files and records. Monitors status of documents and reports. Assists in preparing and typing various work items. Gathers and organizes information on schedules, milestone progress and problems. Analyzes data pertaining to resources, master schedule and tracking aspects to determine potential solutions or alternative methods of procedure. Coordinates with management and customer representatives on the development of research schedules, compliance planning and program planning. Consults with management to ensure schedule adjustments are made according to program changes to facilitate long-term success. Provides management and customer with task progression and task methodology. Develops and updates functional or operational procedures outlining established methods of performing work in accordance with contract. Develops, implements and maintains tracking systems which provide control of time scheduling on project activities. Conducts operational effectiveness reviews to ensure functional or project systems are applied as designed and functioning in a satisfactory manner. Conducts special studies, analyses and investigations of practices and procedures and makes recommendations to promote efficiency. Identifies critical tasks and monitors them regularly. Monitors and updates schedules of tasks and milestone charts to identify areas of potential schedule overrun. Compares existing schedule to milestone schedule. Reviews and audits operating schedules periodically for impact on master schedule. Reviews schedules and milestones for adherence to customer and contract specifications. Analyzes quality impact (to research or military operations) of deviations to baseline of programs and projects. Prepares and issues regular and special reports detailing progress and establishing policies and procedures to implement directives. Performs other duties as required.
College graduate, any discipline, mandatory. MA/PhD, Cultural Anthropologist/Sociologist/Area Studies Preferred. Have fluency in English and language appropriate to the area or local-language ability sufficient to support/perform cultural field research. Possess computer literacy for on-line research and desktop office applications. Have recent/relevant experience consulting, studying or teaching about the Afghanistan or Iraq region, including in-region research travel time or previous residency. Active high level clearance.
Selected Candidate must be able to do all of the following on are regular and sustained basis. If it becomes questionable that the employee may not be able to perform all of the requirements, a physical agilities test may be required before an offer of employment is extended.

Previous field-translator experience with U.S. military preferred. Be capable of satisfactorily passing a National Agency Check. US citizenship and capable of attaining a Secret Clearance preferred. Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)-competent or conversant is helpful plus.
