BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards has a open position for a Engineering Coordinator.

Coordinate the development and review/acceptance of Production Quality Drawings and Procedures. Demonstrate strong familiarity with industry class standards in functional design with emphasis on Structural Steel Outfitting Design and Fabrication requirements. Direct the creation of drawings, sketches, and parts for in support of new construction manufacturing streams and work stations. 

Critically review and evaluate functional design drawings for compliance with design standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate corrective action for regulatory and classification society issues in functional and detailed design. Provide reports and tracking information on corrective actions and report to higher authority.

Interface directly with regulatory and class agencies to identify deficiencies, provide necessary clarifications and investigate root causes for design matters. Research and provide “best alternative solutions” for regulatory and class deficiency correction.

Review design practices for consistency with accepted industry class standards in Marine and Mechanical Structural Steel, Welding, and Production Processes as well as mechanical installations. Line up development of design and production drawings with engineering personnel and subcontractor third parties to provide for design documentation consistent with build strategy and lower costs as well as in accordance with class and regulatory requirements.

Possess knowledge in propulsion train design from prime mover to propeller.

Ensure that design documents support the production of precise mechanical drawings from sketches and blueprints for fabrication and assembly.

Review plans, specifications and drawings received from owners, design agents, subcontractors or naval architects for compliance with regulatory and specification requirements as well as for productivity of design in accordance with best management/construction processes. Contribute to the development of alternative manufacturing strategies.

Correct, edit and amend existing design and production drawings, sketches, files and schematics for client records and production distribution.

Develop comprehensive engineering design work scopes for engineering concerns to use in guidance including calculations, reports and purchase specifications.

Must be physically able to access and tour all spaces on board vessels and within BAE Systems facilities.
Required Skills:
Bachelors Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Naval Architecture preferred with minimum of 4 years experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Production environment. Familiarity with ship fabrication, assembly, and construction processes is required. Experience in working with classification societies and regulatory bodies a strong plus. Fundamental proficiency with computer software packages used to develop design drawings for fabrication in a production environment such as MS Office Products, and AutoCAD 2009 or newer recommended. Knowledge/proficiency in Ship Constructor or similar Naval Design, or 3D modeling software is a plus. Familiarity with manufacturing and production environments, particularly in areas of ship construction including modular construction, sub-assembly erection, and pre-outfitting is strongly desired.
