University Hospitals Medical Practices (formally UPCP/UHMSO) was established in 1994. UH Medical Practices is the largest primary and specialty care physician group in northeastern Ohio, with a physician complement of over 340 physicians, covering an eight county area from Conneaut to Sandusky to Medina. The medical practice group consists of allergy, cardiology, endocrinology, family medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, geriatrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, pediatric ophthalmology, pediatrics, physical medicine/pain management, podiatry, pulmonary medicine, rheumatology and urgent care.

Position Details:
Assists the physician and/or provider by facilitating patient and information flow through numerous phases of the patient visit. Maintains exam rooms.Maintains patient flow to and from exam rooms. Greets and escorts patient and family to exam room. Obtains purpose of visit, vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and measurements) and documents appropriately. Informs the physician and/or provider of abnormal readings or significant deviations from prior visits. Prepares patients for physical exams. Assists physician and/or provider with office procedures involving direct patient care. Performs diagnostic tests such as EKG's and spirometry. Assists with diagnostic procedures and examinations, such as pelvic examinations and flexible sigmoidoscopies. Obtains specimens and performs screenings, such as venipunctures for lab work and blood glucose monitoring, urine specimens and specific gravities, throat and sputum cultures. Administers immunizations and injections under direct supervision of the physician. Conducts physical testing such as; audiometry, urine drug screens, titmus vision testing, and CLIA waived testing. Cleans exam rooms after each patient visit. Inventories and stocks supplies and equipment for exam rooms utilizing cost effective measures and techniques. Schedules procedures. Instructs patients and families regarding preparation for procedure and post procedure needs. Obtains medical record charts and notifies patients of normal test results. Alerts physician and/or providers to patient flow problems. Maintains patient care equipment and notifies supervisor of repair requirements. Performs all duties in compliance with all federal and state regulations. Listens courteously and responds to patient questions, concerns, and/or refers to the appropriate individual. Assists front desk and/or billing as needed.

Position Requirements:

Hearing - must be able to respond to telephone calls and face to face interactions. Lifts/carries/pushes and/or pulls storing supplies.Stands/stoops/crouches for filing.Near vision - to type on computer.Supports and assists the transfer of patients. Reaching above and below shoulder. One to three years of related medical assistance experience preferred. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program required. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, relate effectively with a wide variety of people, computer literate with 40 wpm typing ability, prefer medical terminology, an understanding of third party reimbursement requirements, CPT and ICD-9 coding.

 

Education Requirements:

Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be a graduate from an accredited medical assisting program.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Allergy experience preferred.  Must be able to travel between offices located in Mentor, Chagrin Highlands, Westlake, and Medina.
